Mary Warshauer, President of National Garden Clubs, Inc., has chosen her theme and ongoing NGC project for 2021-2023 to be "Plant America... Play Outdoors" focusing on "A Playground of Possibilities."

Mary Warshauer, President of National Garden Clubs, Inc., is a lifelong gardening and floral design enthusiast who is dedicated to promoting initiatives focusing on civic and environmental education. Through her volunteerism at NGC, Mary aspires to spread awareness throughout schools, groups, clubs, and communities regarding the need to educate future gardeners and help the next generation with tools to develop creative ways to sustain our world.

Nature's splendor provides us with vast and extraordinary beauty - and similar challenges. When we pause to notice insects buzzing, trees swaying in the wind, the rhythms of ocean waves, or the night sky of twinkling stars, Nature's melodies become a source of strength and renewal - and certainly never more than over the last year. Our imaginations are unleashed into a playground of possibilities as we enjoy the boundless wonders of the outdoors.

However, our treasured natural resources need protection and restoration. NGC is dedicated to preserving our earth's natural resources through our communities' civic beautification and our environment's conservation. We must continue to raise awareness to safeguard what we hold dear. Each time we share our members' knowledge and talents in a hands-on community project, NGC has the chance to create long-lasting relationships that will support the environment and enhance our communities.

NGC encourages a wide variety of projects that preserve, protect and restore the environment within our communities. It is this dedication and passion that have enabled us to embrace virtual platforms for communication and education. Utilizing virtual platforms has created the opportunity to engage membership and broaden our audience, which has truly allowed our community to blossom. NGC will continue to engage and educate through virtual means to promote its mission, grow its membership and engage new communities. The possibilities are endless.

We will consider the future, set challenging goals and have the determination to achieve them. Our shared passion enhances the enjoyment of learning from and interacting with our beautiful planet.

After all, playing outdoors is what gardeners do best!

National Garden Clubs Grants Available
Through Plant America Grants, up to $1,000.00 is made available to be used for direct expenses of projects. Projects submitted for receiving a grant may be a joint venture with another organization(s).

The scope of these projects in communities may include:

Beautification and/or restoration

Community gardens

School gardens/classrooms

Landscaping for Habitat for Humanity Homes

Landscaping of Blue Star Memorial Markers

Implementation of environmental practices

A horticulture or environmental educational event for the public

Espoma
Espoma is teaming up with NGC to help communities Plant America with $250 grants of Espoma plant foods and potting soils. Visit the NGC website. Click on Projects and then click on grants and then Espoma to read more about the program:

Applications are accepted between October 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022.

Ames Garden Tools
Ames has grants of garden tools of up to $250 available for local community gardening projects during 2021. Visit the NGC website for information on this program. Click on Projects and then click on grants and then Ames Garden Tools: Ames Garden Tools on NGC

All grant applications must be received by March 1, 2022.

Penny Pines Program
NGC and the USDA Forest Service are proud to have formed a "Penny Pines Program" partnership sustaining our national and urban forests through this reforestation/forest education program. Your garden club can participate by contributing $68 to a Penny Pine plantation as part of the costs of replanting replacement trees and/or trees indigenous (Not Just Pine Trees) to a particular damaged area, whether by fire or by other natural catastrophe. You may designate a specific State you wish to have benefit from this contribution.

Plant It Pink
NGC continues to promote awareness of breast cancer issues and encourages our members to plant areas of pink flowers in our public landscapes, at hospitals, cancer centers, and other sites in order to raise public consciousness. See the NGC website for more details.Plant It Pink
